At the start of the MotoGP race at Le Mans France. Dani Pedrosa and Casey Stoner were first in to turn 1, but they only held the lead for a few seconds as  Jorge Lorenzo passed them both. Jorge Lorenzo took the lead and was never headed for the rest of the race winning by over 10 seconds from Valentino Rossi and Casey Stoner in third.

Jorge Lorenzo pulled out a lead of just over 3 seconds. Casey Stoner soon passed Dani Pedrosa but was unable to close the gap on Jorge Lorenzo. Dani Pedrosa eventually lost ground to Jorge Lorenzo andCasey Stoner.

Cal Crutchlow, Andrea Dovizioso and Valentino traded place for many lap before Cal Crutchlow and then Andrea Dovizioso both made mistakes, both rejoined the race but further down the field and were unable to make any progress. Ben Spies had a poor race having grip issues from the start, at one point he entered the pit and rejoined to finish 16th. Ben seems to be have more than his share of bad luck this year.

The first CRT bike to cross the line was ‘and wait for this’ was James Ellison finishing 11th on the Paul Bird Mororsport’s CRT machine. Colin edwards missed the meeting again but was replaced by Chris Vermeulen who finished the race in 17th place.

So it was a Yamaha winning again followed by a Ducati with the first Honda to cross the finishing line being that of Casey Stoner.

Rider of the day goes to Valentino Rossi who had his best race  for Ducati finishing in 2nd place behind Jorge Lorenzo and  ahead of Casey Stoner. He had battled for much of the race with Cal Crutchlow and Andrea Dovizioso. Jorge Lorenzo now leads the championship by 8 points from Casey Stoner.

Casey Stoner has announced that he will retire at the end of this season. He explained that he wishes to spend more time with his family and that he has lost some of the drive to race on.

On one had expected this move, there had been no rumour of this announcement unlike all of the rumours around Valentino Rossi at this time.

All we can do is wish Casey happiness in his retirement and wish him well for the remainder of the season.

Who will fill the spot in the Honda team?

Rossi had his best result of the year so far last weekend in Estoril Spain taking 7th place. The press keep talking about his retirement and Rossi keeps saying NO i’m not going.
Overal Nicky Hayden seems to be doing better but not by much and there doesn’t seem to be much in the way of improvement. Usually Rossi seems to qualify about one second slower than pole possition and last week he was just under 9/10ths of a second behind Stoner on the grid. It is an improvement but not by much and most certainly not enough. Rossi is now trying to change his style of riding to be able to go faster rather than change the machine to work how he rides. Will this improve Rossi’s and Ducati’s performance.Does this show how good Stoner is or has Ducati lost its way?
Is it time for Rossi to go?

Cal Crutchlow  battled with Tech 3 team-mate Andrea Dovizioso for most of the race eventually loosing out to Dovizioso but still finishing in a good 5th place. Alvaro Bautista had a good race finishing in 6th place ahead of Valentino Rossi in 7th. Valentino had the best race of the season so far. Ben Spies finished in 8th place, he had been battling with the leading group in the early stages but went wide in one turn and never seemed to be able to make the time back up.

Rider of the day goes to Stefan Bradl who had a great race finishing in 9th place but had battled very hard with Valentino Rossi and Nicky Hayden for much of the race. Casey Stoner now leads the championship by 1 point from Jorge Lorenzo. This is the first time Casey Stoner has won the race in Estoril.

World Champion Casey Stoner won his first MotoGP race of the season in an exciting  race in Jerez Spain. Stoner only started from 5th on the grid after for him poor qualifying. From the start six riders exchanged plases battling for the lead. Stoner opened up a lead with only Jorge Lorenzo being able to keep within a second of the leader. Towards the end of the race both riders were have tyre problem, Lorenzo closed in on Stoner and looked like he was going to be able to make the pass in the closing stages of the race. But with two laps to go Lorenzo’s tyres were shot and desided to take a safe second.

Dani Pedrosa and Cal Crutchlow battled for third place for the second half of the race. Pedrosa was unable to make the break from Crutchlow and never lead him by more than a few yards. Crutchlow on the other hand was unable to get close enough to Pedrosa on the staights to outbrake Pedrosa and in the end had to settle for fourth place.

Andrea Dovizioso passed Nicky Hayden but shortly after was passed by Crutchlow and was unable to stick with him. He spent most of the rest of the race alone.

The two works Ducati’s finished in 8th and 9th with Nicky Hayden being as high up as 3rd at one point then working his way back to 8th. Valentino Rossi had a poor start and spent most of the race working his way up to 9th.

Colin Edward had a race to forget only finishing 16th.

Yamaha take first motoGP win of 2012 with Jorge Lorenzo winning the race from the Honda’s of Dani Pedrosa and Casey Stoner. Casey Stoner lead for more than half the race before Jorge and Dani came passed. It looked very much like Casey was having grip problems. Monster Yamaha Tech 3 Team riders Cal Crutchlow and Andrea Dovizioso battled each other for most of the race with Cal Crutchlow crosing the line infront of Andrea Dovizioso to take fourth place. Nicky Hayden came home in sixth place on the Ducati after a big battle with a group of riders. Valentino finished in 10th the last of the ducati’s. Ben Spies finished behind Valentino and he was only 1.1 seconds ahead of Colin edwards the first of the CRT riders.
